Changing pipes

Tried to search for this topic as I remember some posts on it. But the search function is bringing up the same page every time no matter what I type in.

Anyway....is the exhaust system all one piece or is there a slip on junction behind the little shield?

The muffler and the main pipe are all one piece. They are sloppily welded behind the heat shield. Just in front on the heat shield and under the engine the secondary pipe connects to the main pipe via the slide-in flange. At this connection there is a metal washer which seals the exhaust gases in.
